Perennia Rooms and Resources

PLEASE NOTE:

Perennia team members have priority status for the use of the rooms and will do whatever we can to offer alternatives if we need to negotiate the use of a room booked by an outside party.

No food or beverage service is offered and is the responsibility of the booking party.  Perennia staff can note any food or beverage they may need in the notes section, along with a project code for ordered food.

Each room MUST be left in the condition it was found.  Please take care of all your recyclables and garbage before leaving the room. A Perennia employee will assess the room before and after your booking.

Kentville – Large Boardroom

This room seats up to 12 people.

This room is equipped with a videoconferencing system that is only available to Perennia staff.  All IT-related equipment for other groups booking the room must be brought with them.  There is a white board that can be used as a screen for projecting, if desired.

Kentville – Small Boardroom

This rooms seats up to 10 people.

This room is equipped with a white board only.

Kentville – Training Room

This room has round table and chairs and seats up to 25 people.

This room is equipped with a ceiling-mounted LCD which is available for use by the booking party.

Innovation Centre – PIC Boardroom

This rooms seats up to 14 people.

This room is equiped with an interactive white board.  If you have never used such a white board, and wish to view a presentation, please bring an LCD and use the white board as a viewing screen.   All IT-related equipment for other groups booking the room must be brought with them.

Innovation Centre – Pilot Plant (available for booking by PIC Staff and tenants ONLY)

Perennia Innovation Centre has a 1200 sq ft pilot plant available for use by clients on a fee-for-service basis. This facility is available for processing agri-food and non-food agri-bio products. An assortment of pilot-scale processing equipment is available for many food processes, including blending, cooking, drying, heat treatment, packaging, freezing and cooling. Some equipment is installed permanently but most equipment is portable and can be moved into location and connected quickly to overhead utilities as needed.

The pilot plant and various pieces of equipment are often used for test production runs so that clients may make experienced purchase decisions before scaling-up to manufacture products at their own plants, As well, equipment fabricators can use the Centre’s processing space to test and demonstrate their new pieces of equipment in an appropriate setting.

Perennia Innovation Centre’s food scientists and technical staff are experienced in the food processing and bio-product development sector and Good Manufacturing Practices are available to help clients through scale-up of their trial production runs. The pilot plant offers a sanitation program to ensure for safe food production.

All clients and tenants will be required to read and sign a laboratory code of conduct prior accessing rental spaces.  All clients and tenants who use the above facilities must either: be eligible to have a $2,000,000 indemnity OR work with a hired technician, this is required for insurance purposes.  Clients and tenants must be deemed competent by staff at PIC, on individual pieces of equipment in all laboratories, after training and demonstration of abilities.  Fees for laboratory rentals and technical staff, as well as, codes of conduct are available.

Innovation Centre – Food Product Development Lab (available for booking by PIC Staff and tenants ONLY)

Perennia Innovation Centre assists clients in the development of novel food products and processes. The lab is used for formula development, sample production, product re-engineering, extraction and purification of bioactive compounds. Sensory evaluation through tasting panels can be arranged through facilities at Dalhousie Agricultural Campus or Acadia University. Sensory analysis is used to measure food attributes such as taste, texture, appearance and odor.

Innovation Centre – Analytical Lab (available for booking by PIC Staff and tenants ONLY)

Perennia Innovation Centre offers analytical services (microbial and chemical) to the agri-food and ag-bio industries. In the microbiological lab, our technicians will assist clients in identifying potential risks and to develop appropriate risk management systems. The chemistry services provide support and testing to identify potential toxic substances in the product.
